The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre

The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre will showcase our unique artistic life, our world heritage environment and culture in a remarkable cultural precinct. It will be a place offering fluid interaction between art, culture and townscape. It will provide a community and cultural meeting place and inject fresh life into Katoomba.

The Cultural Centre will be the first publicly owned and managed, purpose designed facility for the arts to be constructed in the Blue Mountains. It will be located on the highest point in Katoomba with panoramic views of the World Heritage area. Council’s aim is to develop a landmark building featuring public art, environmentally sustainable design principles and state of the art technology.

The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre is being built as part of a Mixed Use Development in Parke Street, Katoomba, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2012.

The Cultural Centre is co-located with the new Katoomba library on the top level of the development with a Coles supermarket, retail stores and two levels of undercover parking beneath. It will feature the city's regional City Art Gallery, a World Heritage Interpretive Centre Exhibition, a theatrette/seminar room, multi-purpose workshop, gallery shop and café, courtyards and viewing platform.

The project, on the former TAFE site in Katoomba, is a collaborative enterprise between the Council, the New South Wales Government and the Coles Group, with funding support from the Federal Government.
